Metal Halide Bulbs - Metal Halide lamps usually range from 175 to 1000 watts and have a Kelvin range of 4,000 to 20,000. Metal Halide is closest to the sun in terms of luminosity, producing a lot of heat that usually must be cooled by a fan. This is often the preferred type of lighting for a reef tank with anemones and corals that need higher intensity lighting. Metal Halide fixtures are designed to hang above the tank or be mounted in special tops in order to disperse the light and amount of head radiated to the aquarium.
