 Kalkwasser - Translates from the German for limewater and is a solution made by dissolving Calcium Hydroxide in water. The resultant solution is alkaline with a pH of 12.4 and contains a ready supply of both Calcium ions and Carbonate ions.

The solution reacts readily with CO2 in the atmosphere to form calcium carbonate and so it must be made in a relatively air tight environment which is where the Deltec kalkwasser stirrer comes in to play.

KM500
The KM500 is the standard stirrer suitable for tanks up to 1500 liters - 400 US gallons and will produce up to 5 liters - 1.3 US gallons of kalkwasser per hour.

 Why Does Deltec Fluidize the Media?

With the Mk 5 Deltec Fluidized Calcium Reactors, fluidizing the smaller grains of Rowalith C+ ensures that the whole of the surface of the media is always available for reaction with the low pH water within the chamber. On a standard non fluidizing reactor the water always finds the easiest route through the media and forms channels or tracks which can result in only a small area of the media being utilized.

Deposits of fine media build up within a standard reactor which choke up the pathways further and require regular maintenance and cleaning out to maintain a reasonable level of efficiency. With the Deltec reactors, the fine media is kept in suspension and pushed out of the reactor with the water which means that the media never needs to be emptied out and cleaned but simply topped up.

Like the previous version this model is fitted with sponges at the top and bottom of the reaction chamber to prevent the possibility of the fluidized media from entering the pump.

The whole lid assembly removes via a bayonet fitting to allow easy access to the media for filling or cleaning of the reactor.
