 Acriflavine is a preventative and treatment for the control of Oodinium (Velvet) in freshwater and marine fishes. It has a long history of usefulness for the control of fish diseases. Acriflavine is useful for fish egg disinfection, treatment of open wounds, and external protozoan infections. The drug is effective in the control of the bacterial infection "columnaris" (Flexibacter columnaris). Acriflavine may also be considered as an alternative to Malachite Green when it is known that a certain species of fish may be sensitive.

 Formalin·3 is a convenient, pre-diluted form of formalin (37% formaldehyde solution) and is scientifically recognized as an effective medication for the treatment and control of the diseases caused by fungi, protozoans and monogenetic trematodes of freshwater and marine aquarium fishes. Formalin·3 will control or prevent diseases of fishes caused by the following disease organisms: Ichthyophthirius (freshwater "ich"), Costia, Chilodonella, Ambiphyra, Cryptocaryon (saltwater "ich"), Epistylis, Oodinium, Amyloodinium, and Trichodina.  Kordon Ich-Attack is one of three Kordon organic herbal treatments with multiple ingredients for elimination of external single-celled infections of fishes -- whether protozoan parasites (amebae, ciliates or dinoflagellates), or fungal.  Methylene Blue is effective against superficial fungal infections of fishes. The drug may be used as an alternative to Malachite Green for the control of fungus when it is known that the fish to be treated are sensitive. Methylene Blue is safe for use with fish eggs and fry for the prevention of fungal infections. As a secondary use, it is effective against some external protozoans, such as Ichthyophthirius (Ich), Chilodonella and Costia.
The properties of the drug as an oxygen transporter (it converts methemoglobin to the normal oxygen carrying component of fish blood, hemoglobin) allow it to be used in the treatment of known cyanide and nitrite poisoning of aquarium fishes. It has been suggested that newly arrived marine fish placed in Methylene Blue can have their survival rate increased as Methylene Blue aids in the reversal of nitrite and/or cyanide poisoning.

 Kordon's Malachite Green is an effective medication used for the control of various external parasites of freshwater and marine fishes.  Kordon's Rid·Ich+ is a combination of two powerful medications which have proven effective in the control of many diseases of freshwater fishes caused by external protozoan (single cell) parasites such as white spot disease, Ichthyophthiriasis, Costia, Trichodina, Chilodonella and saltwater external parasites such as Cryptocaryon and Amyloodinium . The medication can also treat fungal infections in fishes.
Rid·Ich+ is recommended as the best chemical treatment for Ich, (white spot disease), having been originally developed decades ago for professional aquaculture, public aquariums, and government use in treating fishes. Other than refinement in ingredients, it has continued to remain as the foremost scientifically developed chemical treatment for Ich white spot disease. Efficacy is improved and the treatment time is often reduced when compared to treatment with either the chemicals malachite or formalin alone. Additionally, the Rid·Ich+ formula utilizes the less common but also less toxic chloride salt of malachite green (this is the same salt used in Kordon's Malachite Green).
The recommended treatment concentration of Rid·Ich+ should be approached with caution, carefully observing the reactions of the treated fishes and ceasing treatment if any undue stress is noted. Remember, when the first outward signs of Ich (scattered spots) are noticed, the fish is often quite heavily parasitic in the mouth and gills - lowering the fish's ability to withstand additional stress. The weaker the fishes' condition, the poorer its response will be to any medication. Rid·Ich+ has been shown to be reasonably safe for use on fishes which normally cannot tolerate malachite green alone.
